    In the latter years we have had many hundreds of eye-patients from German-speaking countries. We have also trained many hundred acupuncturists, doctors and eye-specialists in Germany, Switzerland and Austria in my method of treating ”Incurable” eyediseases.
    Now an Austrian university has done research into acupuncturetreatment of one of these incurable eye-diseases; tunnel-vision, or in Latin: Retinitis Pigmentosa.

    These are small excerpts from ”Spektrum der Augenheilkunde 14/5.2000/289 – 291 and Neurological research June 1999, Volume 21”:

    Scientific research: Professor Dr. G. Litcher, Lu Wang, Nau-Hua Yang, Gerhard Schwarz, University eye-clinic Graz, Austria and Biomedical technical university-clinic, Graz.

    The purpose with this study was to find out, whether acupuncture is an effective treatment of eyediseases. There can only be found a little information in the literature.

    Patients and method
    All in all we examined 14 eyes on 7 patients suffering from retinitis pigmentosa.

    Five women and two men. The average age was 28.0+-9.3 years (19 – 42 years).

    Methods of examination

    Besides comprehensive opthamological examinations, which comprised an examination of the visual field with a machine known as Goldman perimetri and the registration of the electro okulogram (eog), also the computer controlled acupuncture ® (cca) for 5 patients was examined. There were registered measurements of the circulation behind the retina before, during and after acupuncture treatment.

    Results

    The results of CCA® showed an average improvement of the average circulation of 47% during acupuncture.
    (CCA® measurements were supported by the federal ministry for science).

    Discussion

    Acupuncture treatment of patients with Retinitis Pigmentosa affected the vertical and horizontal field of sight diameter on 11 out of 14 eyes with a considerable improvement of sight.
    During some treatments there was also a marked increase of the speed of circulation behind the retina, which could be proved with new biomedical constructions and the transcranial Doppler sonogram.

     

    Conclusion

    Acupuncture could be suggested in the future as a possible objective therapeutic method on patients suffering from Retinitis Pigmentosa.
